Digital Force Receives Four Finalist Nominations for
Excellence in Entertainment Media Packaging

The final nominees for the Third Annual “Alex” Entertainment Packaging Awards were
Announced by CMP Information and IRMA (International Recording Media Association).

The awards, named after Alex Steinweiss, designer of the first album cover for Columbia Records, will be presented on August 31st at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood. This award recognizes excellence in entertainment media packaging.

Digital Force and its graphics design team of Mario German and Stephanie Chung have been honored for outstanding achievement in the following categories:

BEST CD PACKAGE, Jazz

NYU Jazz Orchestra Plays the Music of Teo Macero

This album featured original artwork by Ellen Colcord and liner notes by David Schroeder.

“This album features many unique creative forces,“ said Jerome Bunke, President of Digital Force. The music was written by one of the legendary producers of our time--Teo Macero (Dave Brubeck’s “Time Out”--one of many formidable credentials).

“For the visuals, we were extremely fortunate to have access to the original paintings of the talented Ellen Colcord. The total concept was to combine all of these attributes into a seamless, cohesive production. The fact that we are a finalist among the legends Chet Baker, Ray Charles, Muddy Waters, and Marcus Miller is testament to the devotion and care that our entire organization brings to each and every project.”

BEST CD PACKAGE, Classical

ONE by Michael Torke

Performed by the musicians of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra - David Zinman, conductor.

ONE is a contemporary work presented as a series of 5 pieces - Green, Purple, Ecstatic Orange, Ash and Bright Blue Music. The artistry of ONE astounds in how elequently the composer's synesthetic perception of music is conveyed. Composer Michael Torke, fascinatingly enough, sees colors involuntarily when he hears music. ONE is his brilliant attempt at showing his colors to the world.

Four of the five pieces were choreographed by Peter Martins for the New York City Ballet.

BEST PROMOTIONAL CD/DVD MARKETING (Two Finalist Nominations)

W.P.S.1 Art Radio The Museum of Modern Art

Sponsored by Bloomberg L.P., WPS1 provides an extraordinary lineup of music and talk shows broadcasting 24 hours a day. The station's programs combine talk and music shows hosted by contemporary writers, artists, and musicians with rare historic material that includes the entire audio archive of the Museum of Modern Art. This CD is a promotional introduction for the first all-art, all-the-time radio station.

NYC Subway -SONGS FROM THE UNDERGROUND – New York’s Best Subway Musicians

"Songs from the Underground - NYC Subway" consists of one full-length compilation CD, a user-friendly subway map, and a brief story on the NYC subway music scene. The CD presents high-quality studio recordings of eleven talented musicians from the diverse underground music scene.

To determine the finalists, the submissions for the Alex Awards were judged by panels of the industry’s leading entertainment and media packaging figures—executive art directors and designers from throughout New York and Los Angeles.

In announcing the finalists, Larry Jaffee (Chairman of the Entertainment Media Expo) highlighted the new categories included in this year’s Alex Awards:

“We realized that the pop genre was getting all the attention in the music industry, and great design work in jazz and classical was getting overlooked.”

Digital Force is one of the nation’s leading CD, CD-ROM, DVD and multi-media production companies.
